3-Score Reviews: Casino Royale (2006)
Daniel Craig portrays a distinctly unique Bond. He remains true to the mainstays of Fleming’s creation, though gives the spy a more gritty edge. The story does require a little concentration but there is no shortage of the action sequences we’ve come to expect. There is a slight rollback to the usual gadgetry, but this doesn’t detract from the experience.

Although I love this film and have seen it a fair few times it is one of my least favourite of the Bond films, they seem to have put all their effort into making it seem real and resulted in losing the “Bond will survive anything” appeal.
I do agree with “Daniel Craig portrays a distinctly unique Bond”, but personally I think he still needs to grow into the role.
You have a good point, it feels a little more about the ‘if’ he’ll get out of a situation rather than the ‘how’, obviously he will, but there is a slight detraction in confidence. Then again, that probably makes sense, Casino Royale is Bond’s early career. Making him seem less experienced and a little less sure of himself was probably the best way to go.
Thanks for the comment 🙂
Nice idea, the inexperienced Bond is one that is also more accessible to the wider audience, but I’m quite old fashioned in that I love to see the Bond character with overwhelming confidence in the face of adversity.
So here’s hoping that the film out later this year can deliver some of that old charm with some of Daniel Craigs’ own persona. 🙂
Thanks for the reply 🙂
